SUMMERSIDE — Summerside Storm co-owners Duncan Shaw and Darren MacKay, along with head coach Joe Salerno, announced today the signing of Josiah Turner, a 6’3” point guard from Sacramento, Calif.

Turner, a five-star recruit coming out of high school, played one year of basketball at the University of Arizona before going into the NBA Draft where he went undrafted. Called a “pure point guard,” Turner was rated by Rivals.com as the No. 2 best point guard prospect in the United States going into his freshman year at Arizona. Turner was also invited to the 2011 USA Basketball under 19 World Championship Team Training Camp in 2011.

The Storm also announced today they have released backup point guard Avery Smith.

Turner will be in the Storm lineup for the team's two important matchups this week at Credit Union Place in Summerside.

At 7 p.m. Thursday, it will be the division leaders in the NBL squaring off when the league's No. 1 team in the Central Division and league defending champions, the London Lightning, visit Eastlink Arena for the first time this season to take on the Atlantic division leading Storm.

On Friday night the Storm's biggest Atlantic Division rivals, the Halifax Rainmen, come to Eastlink Arena for another 7 p.m. tip-off. This Friday night’s game will also feature the FlyPEI/ Travel Store Shoot to Win contest which will also see someone win a trip for two to the Dominican Republic from all the Shoot to Win winners this season.
