Third quarter costs Panthers women's basketball team

The Acadia Axewomen used a big third quarter to drop the UPEI Panthers Saturday night in Atlantic University Sport women’s basketball.

The game was tied 25-25 at the half before the host Axewomen went on a 22-6 run in the third quarter and never looked back, winning 63-45.

Amy Gough led the Panthers with 20 points and eight rebounds. She was five-for-17 from the floor as the team only hit 26 per cent of its shots.

Katelynn Donahoe was the next leading scorer with seven while Nakita Newman and Jenna Jones each added six.

Lindsay Harris scored 21 and Abbey Duinker added 19 for Acadia. UPEI was outscored 16-2 in the paint by the country’s sixth-ranked team. The Panthers fall to 1-5 while the Axewomen are 5-1.
