X-Men dominate second quarter en route to lopsided victory over Panthers

The UPEI Panthers two-point lead after the first quarter quickly evaporated and they couldn’t recover losing 104-73 Saturday in Antigonish, N.S.

The St. F.X. X-Men dominated the second quarter 28-9 and never looked back.

Mandrez Downey led the Panthers with 19 points off the bench while Geoff Doane and Deontay Smith each added 12. Guard Terrence Brown had six boards to lead UPEI.

The Panthers shot 36 per cent from the field and 40 per cent behind the arc.

Jeremy Dunn led St. F.X. with 21 points as all five starters reached double digits.

The Panthers fall to 2-2 while the X-Men improved to 2-1.

UPEI is in Halifax Sunday to play Saint Mary’s (2-1) at 4 p.m.
