It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win.

The Panther men grinded out an impressive defensive effort beating the Acadia Axemen 64-53 in AUS basketball action.  UPEI's win is worth four points in the standings, and moves them to 4-9, Acadia drops to 4-8.

Terrence Brown scored 19 and grabbed 8 boards for UPEI, who led 24-12 after the first quarter, and 41-27 at the half.  Manock Lual added 17, and Jon Cooper 7.

Owen Klassen and Anthony Sears scored 14 points each for Acadia.

In the women's game, UPEI had a poor start getting outscored 22-6 over the opening ten minutes of action, on their way to a 88-70 loss.  They managed to play the Axewomen even for the rest of the night but could not make up the difference.

Acadia moves to 7-6, while the women are still looking to move into the win column at 0-13.

Amy Gough 14, Nakita Newman 11, and Emily MacEachern scored 10 for UPEI.

Kristy Moore led Acadia with 23, Emma Duinker had 22.

Both Panther teams play again on Sunday afternoon against Cape Breton.  The women play at 2:00pm, and the men at 4:00pm.
