Tigers take commanding 3-1 series lead

Josh Pugsley scored for the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals on Tuesday night. The Campbellton Tigers defeated the Capitals 7-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) playoff series.
The Campbellton Tigers have pushed the Capitals to the brink of elimination in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) playoffs.
The Tigers defeated the regular-season-champion Capitals 7-3 on Tuesday night to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Eastlink North Division semifinal series. The Capitals, now faced with the daunting task of having to win three games in a row, will face a must-win situation on home ice at Eastlink Arena in Game 5 on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Before 869 fans at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Tristan Young (1:28) and Alex Beaulieu (15:10). Josh Pugsley, who was set up by Mitch Dempsey, scored at 19:18 to get the Caps on the board before the first intermission.
David Chevrier extended Campbellton’s lead to 3-1 at 10:56 of the second period, and Pierre-Luc Lurette made it a 4-1 contest during a 5-on-3 power play at 15:02.
Malik Johnson, who has 10 points in the first four games, scored his fourth goal of the series to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead 4:49 into the final frame.
Blaize Bridges, assisted by Brock Richard and Evan Morrison got one goal back for the Caps at 7:15, but Eric Chipman (11:37) and Eddie Banville (13:41), who also has 10 points in the series, scored back-to-back short-handed goals to give Campbellton a 7-2 lead.
Alex Peddle, who was set up by Morgan MacDonald and Nathan Yetman, closed out the game’s scoring with a power-play goal for the Caps at 14:07.
Christofer Langlais earned the goaltending win with a 27-save effort. Matt Williams gave up five goals and took the loss before he was relieved by Kyle Michalovsky. Overall, the Tigers outshot the Capitals 42-30.
