Gaudet, Jay lead way in Game 5 vs. Metros

ABRAM-VILLAGE – The Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings are back in front.

After jumping out to a 2-0 series lead over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros, the Red Wings picked up a 7-3 win on Friday night to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven semifinal. The Red Wings will have an opportunity to wrap up the series at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown on Wednesday night.

At the Evangeline Recreation Centre, Willie Gaudet scored a hat trick and collected an assist for a four-point night while Isaac Jay lit the lamp twice for the Red Wings. Cole Hackett (1-1) and Evan Millman also scored while Chasse Gallant (2), Logan Smallman (2), Tyler LeBlanc, Abel Arsenault and Jason Gallant chipped in with assists.

Cody MacPhee, Connor Smith and Lucas Holmes countered for the Metros.

The Red Wings jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after 20 minutes, and took a 5-1 cushion into the second intermission.

Chris Gallant made 23 saves in earning the win. The Red Wings directed 35 shots at Sherwood-Parkdale netminders Daniel Nicholson and Sam Walsh.
