Zack Wilson's unassisted second-period goal proved the game-winner as the Mid-Isle Matrix beat the Eastern Express 3-1 on Tuesday in Cornwall and advanced to the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League final.
Mid-Isle, the third-seeded team, won the best-of-five semifinal 3-1 and face the top-seeded Prince County Warriors in the final. The schedule for the best-of-fives series is yet to be determined.
After a scoreless first period, Keegan Mitchell gave the Express a 1-0 lead 11 minutes into the second with an assist by Logan Kelly-Murphy.
But six minutes later Nathan Mahar (1-1) and Wilson scored during a 1:28 span lifting Mid-Isle to a 2-1 advantage against the second-seeded Express.
Josh MacDonald added an insurance goal 49 seconds into the third for a 3-1 edge.
Neither team scored on the power play in a combined 12 chances.
Jonah Arbing earned the win over Erik MacInnis.
