Gaudet has five-point game

ABRAM-VILLAGE – Willie Gaudet was in on all five goals as the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings opened the Island Junior Hockey League playoffs on a winning note Sunday night.

Gaudet had a goal and four helpers to lead the Red Wings to a 5-0 victory over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros in Game 1 of the best-of-seven Island Junior Hockey League semifinal series at the Evangeline Recreation Centre.

Logan Smallman (2-1) and Jason Gallant (1-2) each had three-point efforts while Benji Gaudet netted the other Western goal. Chasse Gallant, Dillon Wall and Calvin McRae chipped in with assists.

The Red Wings built period leads of 2-0 and 4-0 while Chris Gallant registered a 26-save shutout. Daniel Nicholson faced 36 shots in the Sherwood-Parkdale net.

The series resumes at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
