Red Wings outlast Montague for victory to close out IJHL regular season

Jason Gallant's two goals and an assist led the Arsenault's Fish Mart Red Wings to a 5-3 win over the Montague Pizza Delight Maniacs in the final Island Junior Hockey League regular season game Tuesday in Abram-Village.

The Wings finished second in the four-team circuit with a 19-10-3 record and play the A&S Scrap Metal Metros in one best-of-seven semifinal beginning Sunday, at 7p.m., in Abram-Village.

Montague was fourth (7-22-3) and face the first-place Kenisington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers in the other semi. Game 1 is Sunday, at 7 p.m., in Kensington.

On Tuesday, the Wings were down 3-1 after Montague goals by Damon MacDonald (1-1), Shawn Corney (1-1) and Johnathan Arsenault countered a score by Logan Smallman (1-2).

But Gallant struck twice in the second frame and Calvin MacRae (1-1) and Abel Arsenault (1-1) added third-period goals to secure the win. Michael Evoy chipped in two assists for Montague.

The Wings outshot Montague 42-40 and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Chris Gallant earned the win over Matt Derry.
