The Eastern Express and the Prince County Warriors drew first blood after winning their opening games in the P.E.I. Irving Oil Bantam AAA Hockey League playoffs on Tuesday.
Prince County downed the Central Attack 4-3 in O'Leary in the best-of-five semifinal while the Express doubled the Mid-Isle Matrix 4-2 in Montague.
Game 2 in both series go tonight in Crapaud and Charlottetown. Start times are 7:10 p.m. for the Express-Matrix and 8:15 p.m. for the Warriors-Attack matchup at Cody Banks Arena.
Express 4, Matrix 2
The Express scored three times (Riley MacDougall, Zac Arsenault, Matt Gordon) during the first two periods and salted away the win on home ice in Montague.
MacDougall added a third-period score to round off the Express scoresheet.
Ryan Richards and Landon Clow scored Mid-Isle's goal in the final stanza. Josh MacDonald chipped in two assists.
Neither team scored on the power play in a combined 16 chances.
Erik MacInnis earned the win over Jonah Arbing.
Warriors 4, Attack 3
Warriors goals by Nick Reeves and league MVP Bennett MacArthur in the first period provided enough cushion for the win.
Chase Gaudette and Bradley Campbell added second and third period goals, respectively, for Prince County. Colby MacArthur and Carter Cahill each had two assists.
Josh Dow scored twice, one on a second-period power play, for Central. Noah Griffin netted the other Attack marker.
Prince County led 2-1 after the first and 3-2 at the second intermission.
