Southside wins opening game of semifinals

CRAPAUD – Jarrett Mulligan scored once and earned three assists to spark the Southside Lynx on Saturday night.

The Lynx trimmed the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces 9-2 in the opening game of the best-of-five semifinal series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League. Game 2 is in Tignish on Friday at 8:30 p.m., with Game 3 back at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Brady VanderVelden (2-1), Joel MacIsaac (1-1), Alex MacLeod (1-1), Tyler Jurkowski (1-1), David MacMillan, Ryan Beckingham and Frank Watts also scored for the Crapaud-based Lynx in the series opener.

Joel Arsenault netted both goals for the Aces, who were coming off a 5-3 road win over the North River Flames in the fifth and deciding game of the quarter-finals on Friday night.

The well-rested Lynx, who had a first-round bye, jumped out to period leads of 4-1 and 7-1.

Winning goaltender was Sean MacPhee. Southside outshot Tignish 32-26.
