Midget AAA series resumes in Charlottetown on Sunday

ALBERTON – Alex Morrissey’s goal with 40 seconds remaining in the second period was the difference.

It broke a 1-1 tie, and lifted the Western Regals to a 2-1 win over the Charlottetown Abbies in Game 1 of the best-of-five P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League semifinal series on Saturday night. The series resumes on Sunday as the Abbies host Game 2 at MacLauchlan Arena.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena, Isaac Callaghan opened the scoring midway through the first period, and the score remained 1-0 until Brodie Weatherbie’s short-handed goal at 8:08 of the middle frame tied the game.

Chandler Wood, Brayden Handrahan, Brayden Arsenault and Cody Ellsworth earned assists for the Regals. Alex Young and Andrew Campbell drew helpers on Charlottetown’s goal.

Bronson Banks was the winning goaltender, and Ava Boutilier was between the pipes for the Abbies.
