The 23-year-old defenceman from East Bideford was one of two players called up by the parent Montreal Canadiens on Friday night following the St. John's IceCaps’ 4-1 loss to the Utica Comets. Forward Michael McCarron will join Ellis for the trip to Montreal.
In 56 regular-season games in the American Hockey League with the IceCaps this year, Ellis has 31 points – 12 goals and 19 assists – while registering a plus-8. The six-foot-one and 207-pound Elis, who shoots right, has picked up 45 penalty minutes.
The Canadiens drafted Ellis in the fourth round, 117th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
The Canadiens’ next game is Saturday night in Montreal against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It is unknown if Ellis will be in the lineup for his first career NHL regular-season game.
