UPEI forward Marcus Power is the CIS male athlete of the week
UPEI men’s hockey Panthers forward Marcus Power has been selected CIS male athlete of the week.
Women’s hockey player Kelty Apperson from St. Thomas University is the CIS female athletes of the week.
Power, a second-year business administration student from St. John’s, N.L., posted five points in two contests, including the series-clinching goal in overtime, as the Panthers upset then nationally fifth-ranked Acadia in the quarter-finals of the AUS championship.
The six-foot forward had three assists in last Wednesday’s 6-3 series-opening victory, including a helper on the game-winning goal, and added his fourth assist of the playoffs in the first period of Friday’s rematch before lifting his troops to a 4-3 win four minutes and 45 second into extra time.
Power, who had 109 points in 67 games in his final QMJHL season with Rouyn-Noranda in 2013-14, now faces the challenging task of leading UPEI against No. 1 UNB starting Thursday at 7 p.m. AST, live on AUStv.ca.
