Sprong has big weekend
MONCTON, N.B. – The Charlottetown Islanders swept a pair of road games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League over the weekend.
The Islanders defeated the Halifax Mooseheads 5-2 on Saturday night, and then pulled out a 1-0 decision over the Moncton Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
The Islanders, who have clinched a playoff berth, are 28-24-5-2 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses).
Sunday, Daniel Sprong’s goal at 8:40 of the third period was all the offence required for Islanders goaltender Mason McDonald, who recorded a 42-save shutout.
Saturday, Sprong scored twice while Luc Deschenes, Samuel Blais and Filip Rydstrom added single goals against Halifax as the Islanders built period leads of 2-0 and 5-1.
Matthew Welsh turned in a 30-save effort.
