The UPEI Panthers can eliminate the Acadia Axemen with a win tonight in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men's hockey playoff action.
The Panthers have momentum after winning 6-3 Wednesday in Wolfville, N.S., but know it can swing quickly in a best-of-three series.
"There's really no time for either team to kind of take your foot off the gas," Panthers head coach Forbes MacPherson said Thursday.
The Panthers "know we haven't accomplished anything yet," he added. "We've just given ourselves the opportunity to get a little closer."
Game time is 7 p.m. tonight at MacLauchlan Arena. Game 3, if necessary, is Sunday at 7 p.m. at Acadia.
UPEI went 2-for-7 on the power play on Wednesday while it killed all six of the Axemen's man advantages. UPEI took a conference-low 372 penalty minutes during the 28-game regular season while it had the second-best penalty kill at 86 per cent, behind Acadia's 89 per cent efficiency.
"We want to be a very disciplined team," MacPherson said. "They have a lot of depth, they have a lot of offence, so we don't want to be playing down, five against four, too often."
Goalie Mavric Parks gets the start for the Panthers.
Tickets are $15 and are available in the rink lobby from noon to game time.
