Panthers lose 2-1 to top-ranked Huskies to complete AUS season

Breanna Lanceleve’s second period goal was the winner Sunday as the Saint Mary’s Huskies defeated the UPEI Panthers 2-1 at MacLauchlan Arena.

With the win the Huskies (17-6-1) clinched first place in Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey conference while the Panthers (6-15-3) were eliminated from playoff contention last week.

Rebecca Johnson gave the Huskies a 1-0 first period lead.

Defenceman Emma Martin tied it with 3:54 to play in the second. Lanceleve scored with 1:38 left in the frame to round out the scoring.

Cassidy McCabe and Emma Weatherbie had assists for UPEI.

Rebecca Clark made 11 saves for the win while Kristy Brown stopped 24 shots in the loss.

It was the final game for Panthers Sam Sweet, Laura Bradley and Maggie Grimmer.
