Vandervelden one-man wrecking crew versus Belfast

Ryan Beckingham and Brady Vandervelden scored in the shootout to lead the Southside MacDonald's Excavation EF MacPhee Lynx a 3-2 victory over the Belfast Down East Auto Parts Sabres in Razzy's P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League action Wednesday in Crapaud.

Vandervelden also scored Southside's regulation goals, including the game-tying marker.

The win moved the Lynx into a first-place tie with Belfast with 42 points, but Southside has 20 wins versus Belfast's 19.

Southside plays the Sherwood Metros Friday night at MacLauchlan Arena at 9:35 p.m. to end the regular season while Belfast's season is finished.

Belfast led 1-0 after the first period. The game was tied 1-1 at the second intermission.

Michael McQuillan (1-1) and Tyler Deagle had the Sabres goals.

Southside outshot Belfast 30-22. The teams went a combined 0-for-6 on the power play.

Sean MacPhee earned the win over Ben Ladner.

Friday's other contest has the Tignish Perry's Construction Aces at the Morell Flyers at 8:20 p.m. The playoff schedule will be released shortly.
