Late-game offence rescues tie for midget Capitals

Logan Vandervelden scored with 15 seconds left in the game to salvage a 2-2 tie for the Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals against the Mid-Isle Matrix in P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League action Wednesday in Summerside.

Mid-Isle had a 2-0 lead after the first period, thanks to scores by Nick Trainor and Daniel Collister.

Summerside's Parker Cameron cut the lead to 2-1 midway through the third and Vandervelden, who also had an assist in the game, scored 10 minutes later.

Mid-Isle outshot Summerside 30-26. Neither team had a power-play goal in a combined eight chances.

Jaxon Lamont and Caelen Ferguson were in the Caps and Matrix nets, respectively.
