Moncton defeats UPEI 3-1 to leapfrog Panthers in standings

The UPEI Panthers need a win and some help to finish fifth now in the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey standings.

Allain Saulnier, Steve Lebel and Alex Emond scored to pace Moncton to a 3-1 victory Wednesday in the Hub City.

Brent Andrews from Marcus Power scored a shorthanded goal for the Panthers with 4:41 remaining in the third period.

Adrien Lemay made 26 saves for the win while Mavric Parks stopped 29 shots in his return to the Panthers crease.

Moncton held period leads of 1-0 and 2-0.

Moncton improves to 12-13-2, leapfrogging UPEI (11-13-3) for fifth place with a game remaining in the regular season.

The Panthers host conference-leading UNB Friday while Moncton has last-place St. Thomas also on Friday.
