Home ice was not an advantage in Sunday's Razzy's P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League action as the Belfast Down East Auto Parts Sabres thumped the Morell Flyers 9-1 in Morell and the Sherwood Metros snuck past the Tignish Perry's Construction Aces 4-3 in Tignish.
Belfast's win pushed it one point ahead of the Southside MacDonald's Excavation EF MacPhee Lynx for the league lead with 41 points while Morell (3-24) remained in the league basement.
Meanwhile, Sherwood improved to 14-11-2 and Tignish dropped to 12-14-1.
Belfast 9, Flyers 1
Five goals in the third period, courtesy of Spencer Ross, Tyler Deagle (1-2), Luke MacAulay, Tanner Power and Matthew Glover (1-1), salted away the win for the Sabres in Morell.
Ross also scored in the first period. Jordan Hambly (1-1), Evan Feehan and Tyler MacGillivray netted the other Belfast goals.
The Sabres led 3-0 after the first period and 4-1 at the second intermission. Belfast outshot Morell 58-19, including 21-5 in the final frame, and went 4-for-10 on the power play.
Matt MacKinnon, from Ben Doucette and Dylan Fay, had the Flyers goal.
Nolan Compton earned the win over Seth Nicholson.
Metros 4, Aces 3
Jake Arsenault's goal early in the third period proved to be the difference as the Metros earned the road win.
Zac Mella (2) and Zack MacDonald also scored for the Metros while Brody Maddix and Brandon Adams each tallied two assists.
Tyson Carragher (2) and affiliated player Brayden Handrahan (1-1) answered for the Aces. Ryan McNeil chipped in two helpers.
The Metros led 1-0 after the first period, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 3-3.
James Duffy was the winning goaltender, and Avery Arsenault took the loss.
