The Moncton Flyers defeated the Charlottetown Robin's Donuts Islanders 5-1 Sunday at MacLauchlan Arena in New Brunswick-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League action.
Remi Theriault and Felix LeBlanc gave Moncton a 2-0 lead after the first period. Brennan Laverty with two and Samuel Bastille one made it 5-0 in the second period before Kallum Muirhead from Tyler Gallant and Cale Pierce replied for the host Islanders.
Daniel Thompson made 20 saves for the win while Noah Laybolt stopped 42 shots in the loss. Moncton was 2-for-5 on the power play while Charlottetown was 0-for-4.
The Flyers improved to 18-13-2 while the Islanders are 2-29-2.
Charlottetown concludes the regular season this weekend with games in Kensington Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday in Moncton at 1:30 p.m. The best-of-seven P.E.I. championship series between Kensington and Charlottetown begins Saturday, Feb. 27, in Kensington.
