McDonald named QMJHL first star of the week

Charlottetown Islanders goalie Mason McDonald was named the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League first star of the week on Monday.

The 19-year-old Halifax native defeated the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles twice, allowing only two goals on 67 shots for a 0.970 save percentage. He got his second shutout of the season on Saturday. He has won five of his last six starts and is 12-12-3-0 with 3.40 goals-against average on the season.

Chicoutimi defenceman Frédéric Allard was the second star and Sherbrooke goalie Charles-Antoine Poirier-Turcot the third star.
