Island teams failed to defend home ice Sunday as the Fredericton Caps snuck past the Arsenault's Fish Mart Red Wings 4-3 in a shootout in Abram-Village and Kent Koyotes outmanned the A&S Scrap Metal Metros 7-3 at Cody Banks Arena.
On Saturday, however, the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers outgunned Fredericton 5-1 in Kensington.
The games were part of three-game weekend card between the Island and the New Brunswick junior hockey leagues.
Caps 4, Red Wings 3 (SO)
Devin Costello and Ryan Camp scored in the shootout to give the Caps a 4-3 win over the Wings in Abram-Village.
Aaron Meahan, Alex Clark and Dawson Warman scored in regulation time for the Caps.
Logan Smallman (2) and Willie Gaudet scored for the second-place Red Wings, which fell to 11-5-2.
There was no scoring in the first period, and the teams were tied 1-1 after 40 minutes.
Andrew Mergl registered the win over Bradley Shea.
Koyotes 7, Metros 3
Kent scored three times in the first period and cruised to the victory at Cody Banks Arena.
Jeremie Albert (1-1), Daniel Gallant and Abel Arsenault scored in the decisive period, while Arsenault, Brandon Coulombe (2) and Mathieu Bourgouin netted markers during the next two periods.
Tanner Lund (2) and Garrett MacDiarmid replied for the Metros, while Tyson Blue chipped in two assists.
Kent led 3-1 after the first period and 4-2 at the second intermission, and outshot the Metros 41-23.
Samuel Query earned the win over Daniel Nicholson.
Vipers 5, Caps 1
The Vipers spotted Fredericton a 1-0 lead before storming back with five unanswered goals en route to the win in Kensington.
Jordan Mayhew (1-2), Campbell Gallant (1-1), Ryan Kelly, Spencer McAllister and Nick Bouchey scored for the Vipers, which improved their league-leading record to 15-4-1. Tanner McGuigan and Jonathan Richards each added two assists.
Austin Dodd countered for Fredericton.
The Vipers held period leads of 2-1 and 3-1.
Grant Grady recorded the goaltending win.
