Captain Mason Wilgosh scored 8:46 into overtime as the UPEI Panthers defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 Saturday at the Eastlink Centre as part of the hockey day in P.E.I. festivities.
Dalhousie’s Andrew Wigginton and Panthers defenceman Ryan MacKinnon traded power-play goals in regulation in the Atlantic University Sport game. It was MacKinnon’s second goal in as many days for the rookie Panther. Nelson Armstrong and Marcus drew assists on the marker.
Former Halifax Mooseheads Phil Gadoury and Jesse Lussier had assists on Wigginton’s goal.
Matt Mahalak stopped 19 shots for the win while Corbin Boes made 37 saves in the loss.
UPEI was 1-for-7 on the power play while Dalhousie was 1-for-3.
The Panthers improved to 9-6-2 while the Tigers are 4-11-2.
