Gold medal game at Nations Cup will take place Thursday
Mount Hebert’s Shannon MacAulay and her Team Canada teammates will play for gold Thursday at the Nations Cup in Germany.
Canada’s national development team defeated Russia 4-2 on Tuesday to finish first in their three-team pool with a 1-0-1-0 (W-L-OTW-OTWL) record. They will play Finland in the final.
“I thought the team played great, I think we came out and showed a lot of character, just like yesterday’s game we stuck with our systems and structure and we battled hard and came out with a good win," MacAulay said. "[On Thursday] I think we just have to keep going the way we have been, I think now it shows we’ve come together as a team and we just need to do whatever it takes to get the win in the final.”
Jamie Lee Rattray had two goals and an assist to lead the way for Canada. Melodie Daoust added a goal and an assist while Katelyn Gosling had the other Canadian goal. Cassandra Poudrier, Brigette Lacquette, Kelly Terry and Karly Heffernan had assists.
Elaine Chuli was the winning goalie.
The game was scoreless after the first while Canada took a 3-1 lead to the third period.
The gold medal game will take place at 2 p.m. Atlantic.
MacAulay, 21, is in her fourth year at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., and is the Golden Knights captain.
