Caps remain at No. 18 in national rankings

League play resumes this week

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals will begin 2016 where they finished 2015.

That is as the No. 18-ranked team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings.

The Capitals sit atop the overall standings in the MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) with 43 points on the strength of a 21-8-1-0 (won-lost-overtime losses-shootout losses) record. However, the Caps are only two points up on Roger Meek Division two rivals – Dieppe Commandos (20-8-1-0) and Woodstock Slammers (19-6-3-0).

The Capitals have been idle since a 5-3 win over the South Shore Lumberjacks (14-13-1-1) in Bridgewater, N.S., on Dec. 20.

The Capitals resume league play at Eastlink Arena on Thursday. The Miramichi Timberwolves will provide the opposition at 7 p.m.
