Pownal moves one point ahead of Regals

POWNAL – The Pownal Red Devils and Western Regals’ leapfrogging of each other for first place in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League continues.

The Red Devils trimmed the Sherwood Falcons 9-1 on Monday night to move back into top spot, one point ahead of the Alberton-based Regals. Pownal is now 15-4-3 (won-lost-tied), good enough for 33 points while the Regals are 15-4-2.

Hat trick

At the Pownal Sports Centre, Nick Steele’s hat trick and a four-point effort from Barrington Duffy (1-3) ignited Pownal’s offence. Noah Morrison (2), Connor Gray (1-2), Colin Koughan (1-2) and Brett Cheverie  also scored.

Matthew Sinnott netted the lone goal for Sherwood (0-19-1).

The Red Devils held period leads of 3-0 and 4-1, before blowing the game open with five unanswered third-period goals.

Colby Landrigan picked up the goaltending win.
