Charlottetown native takes care of a lot of firsts in seventh American Hockey League game
It may not have been a highlight-reel goal, but it is one Josh Currie will never forget.
The centre scored his first AHL goal on Dec. 4 as the Bakersfield Condors defeated the San Diego Gulls 6-4.
The goal came three minutes into the second period after Gulls goalie Ryan Faragher turned the puck over behind the net to Condors defenceman Joey LaLeggia.
"Joey just threw it right out to me in the slot. I had pretty much wide-open net, so it was a pretty easy one for my first," Currie recently told The Guardian. "A lot of credit to Joey for getting in on the forecheck and a quick heads-up play to feed me."
Five minutes later Currie assisted on Kale Kessy's goal and before the end of the period, the centre fought defenceman Stu Bickel.
"He's played well," said Condors coach Gerry Fleming. "He got a Gordie Howe hat trick the other night. I haven't seen one of those in a long, long time."
