Regals move into lead in midget circuit

Abbies pummel Falcons in Charlotteotwn

The Western Regals built an early lead, and never looked back en route to regaining first place in the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League on Saturday in Alberton.

The Regals led 3-0 after the opening period, went on to a 5-3 decision over the Pownal Taco Boyz Red Devils and moved into the top spot with a 13-3-0 mark, one point ahead of Pownal (12-4-1).

Alex Morrissey scored a hat trick for Western while Will Tuplin (1-1) and Brayden Handrahan chipped in with single tallies for the Regals. Brayden Arsenault and Chance Pitre each drew two helpers.

For the Red Devils, which trailed 5-3 following 40 minutes, Jason Poley, Andrew MacKinnon and Barrington Duffy found the back of the net.

Bronson Banks earned the goaltending win, and Colby Landrigan was between the pipes for Pownal.

Also Saturday, the Charlottetown Brighton Construction Abbies crushed the Sherwood Drug Mart Falcons 11-2 in Charlottetown.

Ryne MacIsaac (2-2), Kyle Doucette (2-1), Johnathan Gormley (2), Alex Hall (1-1), Alex Young (1-1), Gavin Hickey (1-1), Brodie Weatherbie and Ryan May lit the red lamp behind Falcons goalie Dylan Gallant.

Jack Carruthers, Bobby Jamieson and Andrew Campbell each chipped in two assists.

Connor Campbell earned the Abbies goaltending win.

Andrew Lewis (1-1) and Hunter Boudreau netted the Falcons goals.

Charlottetown led 3-0 after the hurt period and 6-1 at the second intermission, and went 2-for-6 on the power play.
