McCardle nets five goals in Matrix romp

The Mid-Isle Matrix scored early and often, led by C.J. McCardle's five goals, en route to an 8-1 thumping of the Sherwood Drug Mart Falcons in P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League action Thursday at Cody Banks Arena.

McCardle scored two of the Matrix's three, first-period goals and three of the squad's four, second-period scores. It moved him into third among goal scorers in the league (15 goals).

Along the way, Nick Trainor (1-1), Chandler LaPorte (1-1) and Tyson Beckingham (1-1) chipped in goals.

Garret Murray added three assists for Mid-Isle while Daniel Collister, Spencer Beaton and Brandon Watts each had two helpers.

Mid-Isle led 3-1 after the first frame and 7-1 at the second intermission, and went 1-for-2 on the power play.

Levi Younker, assisted by Matthew Sinnott and Jacob Currie, netted Sherwood's marker.

Jean-Luc Duguay tallied the win over Parker McCabe.
