The Charlottetown Islanders traded goalie Eric Brassard to the Quebec Remparts Saturday at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Draft.
In return the Islanders acquired a third-round pick (55th overall) and selected Luke House, a six-foot-two, 185-pound goalie who played for Western in the Newfoundland major midget league this season.
Brassard, a 19-year-old from Longueuil, Que., was 7-21 last season with a 3.56 goals-against average. He backed up Mason McDonald in the playoffs.
General manager Grant Sonier said the team had discussions with Brassard upto Friday.
“There was some concerns about how much playing time he was going to get,” he said. “We couldn’t lie to the kid and tell him he was an equal with Mason. We feel Mason is clearly our No. 1."
Sonier thanked Brassard for his year with the club. The team acquired him a year ago for a fifth-round pick and traded him for a third-round choice, which Sonier said “is evident to how good he played."
