Katie-Lynn Cummiskey has committed to the Holland Hurricanes women’s hockey and soccer teams for the upcoming school year.
The Pownal resident, who is currently completing high school at École François-Buote, will be taking the sport and leisure management program.
“I'm looking forward to being a dual-(sport) athlete with the Hurricanes. There’s no better opportunity to continue my studies and be physically active all at once,” she said. “I hope to be able to take my game and my studies to the next level. I am determined to do everything I can to assure a successful and enjoyable season.”
Cummiskey was an assistant captain with the Central Storm midget AAA team last season and was named the 2013-14 senior female player of the year for the Pownal Minor Hockey Association. In 2007-2008 she was named the junior female player of the year.
Cummiskey has been a part of three provincial championship teams, in 2007-08, 2010-11 and 2011-12.
“I am a versatile player with great dedication, work ethic and speed,” she said.
Cummiskey also coached at the atom girls’ team in Pownal last season.
On the pitch, Cummiskey played on the under-18 Stratford team last year in the P.E.I. Senior Women’s League and in 2008 and 2009 represented P.E.I. at the Acadian Games.
Hurricanes assistant coach Derek McEwen, who has coached Cummiskey in the past, looks forward to having her as a part of this year’s roster.
“She has a tremendous work ethic in all that she does and always competes with 100 per cent effort,” he said.
Cummiskey’s older brother Patrick plays with the men’s hockey team.
