Evans-Renaud sets up series-clinching goal in double overtime

KENTVILLE, N.S. – The first upset of this year’s Maritime Junior Hockey League playoffs is in the books.

Colby Tower, who was set up by Jean-Marc Evans-Renaud of St. Peters, scored at 6:40 of double overtime to lift the Valley Wildcats to a 3-2 win over the Yarmouth Mariners on Tuesday night. Valley, which opened the best-of-three Eastlink Division quarter-final series with a 4-2 win in Yarmouth on Monday night, now advances to face the Truro Bearcats in the best-of-seven division semifinal series.

Evans-Renaud also tied the game 2-2 at 4:59 of the third period as the Wildcats were outshot 55-28.

Chase Gaudet of Summerside was in goal for Yarmouth, which finished 22 points ahead of the Wildcats in the regular season.
