The Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild has jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven provincial final with the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders.
The Wild won the opening game of the major midget championship 9-2 Saturday in Kensington and took the second contest 7-4 on Sunday in Charlottetown.
Game 3 goes Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Kensington with the fourth game set for Thursday at 8 p.m. in Charlottetown.
The series winner advances to the Atlantic championship in New Glasgow, N.S., in April.
Wild 9 Islanders 2
Colton Chiasson led the Wild with a goal and three assists while Sam Jay had two goals and a helper.
Max Morrison, Kyle Pinksen, Cole Hackett and Riley Gallant each had a goal and assists. Austin Taylor and Spencer Sherren also scored in the win.
Jesse Jay and Dillon Wall each collected two helpers while Bailey Webster, Jesse Annear, Campbell Gallant, Abel Arsenault and Michael Evoy each had one as all but three Wild players found the score sheet.
Jonathan Arsenault scored both of the Islanders goals while Johnathon Larter and Shawn Corney each had two assists.
Cameron Visser stopped 29 shots for the win while Sam Walsh allowed eight goals on 29 shots and Cam Duffy a goal on 12 shots for the Islanders.
The Wild held period leads of 2-1 and 6-2.
Wild 7 Islanders 4
The Islanders took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission on Sunday, but the Wild responded in the middle stanza and led 5-3 going to the third.
Evoy had two goals for the Wild while Jay, Webster, Sherren, Hackett and Arsenault had singles.
Pinksen and Jay had two assists while Riley Gallant, Arsenault, Morrison, Annear, Sherren and Austin Taylor each had one.
Dylan Wheatley scored twice for the Islanders while Sebastien Cormier and Jordan McCabe each had a goal and an assist. Helpers went to Hunter McIntyre, Corney, Arsenault and Cole Jenkins.
Visser made 17 saves for the win while Duffy and Walsh each made 26 saves for the Islanders.
