SUMMERSIDE — Maxim Pitre was the hero for the Summerside Western Capitals on Thursday night.

Pitre scored the winning goal in the shootout to give the Caps a 4-3 come-from-behind win over the Amherst Ramblers in MHL (Maritime Junior Hockey League) action before 674 fans at Eastlink Arena.

The Capitals never led in the game, and trailed 3-1 at one point in the third period, but two late goals by Joey Colatarci (12:15) and Brad Power (17:59) sent the game to a scoreless five-minute overtime period.

Francis Alarie staked the Ramblers to a 1-0 lead at 7:59 of the first period.

The score remained that way until Thomas Stavert scored to tie the game at 7:28 of the second period, and extend his point streak to 10 games. Jamie Bishop restored Amherst’s lead at 15:05, and the second period ended with Amherst in front 2-1.

Former Capital Brock Morrison connected for a power-play goal at 11:45 of the third period to put the Ramblers up 3-1.

Stavert, Pitre, Blaize Bridges, Alex Bradley and Malik Johnson drew assists for the Capitals.

Simon-Pier Chamberland earned the goaltending win over Richard Tingley. The final shots-on-goal totals were 34-29 in favour of the Capitals.
