Mooseheads trim Islanders 5-1

HALIFAX – The Halifax Mooseheads jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period, and never looked back on Wednesday night.

The Mooseheads went on to top the Charlottetown Islanders 5-1 in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game played before 7,565 fans at the Halifax Metro Centre.

Nikolaj Ehlers led the Mooseheads with two goals and two assists. Jacob Jacques, Andrew Ryan and Jonathan Drouin also lit the lamp.

Bradley Kennedy netted the lone goal for the Islanders.

Kevin Darveau earned the goaltending win. For the Islanders, Eric Brassard gave up three goals on 13 shots in 20 minutes of action, and Mason MacDonald stopped 25 of 27 shots over 40 minutes.

The Islanders visit the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on Friday.
