CORNWALL – The North River Flames have evened the best-of-five quarter-final series in the Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League with the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces at a win apiece.
The Flames, after dropping the series opener 7-1 in Tignish on Friday night, built a 3-0 lead with 6:36 to go in the third period, and then survived a late Aces’ push for a 3-2 victory on Saturday night.
The series returns to the Tignish Credit Union Arena for Game 3 on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with Game 4 back in Cornwall on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m.
At the APM Centre, goals by Cody White and Dan MacPhee gave the Flames period leads of 1-0 and 2-0. Cameron MacMurdo’s unassisted goal in the third period proved to be the winner while Troy Gallant (14:39) and Charlie Bernard (17:32) replied for the Aces.
Ryan McGuigan, Brad Power and Everett McQuaid assisted on the North River goals. Karter Hackett picked up Tignish’s lone helper.
Taylor Doyle earned the goaltending win over Jake Hackett. The final shots-on-goal totals were 38-24 in favour of the Aces.
