UPEI Panthers women's hockey team loses in shootout to Saint Mary's

Caitlyn Manning scored the only goal of the shootout Saturday as the Saint Mary’s Huskies defeated the UPEI Panthers 2-1 in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey action.

The Huskies’ Laura Polak opened the scoring in the second period while Emma Martin, a rookie defenceman with the Panthers from Winsloe, tied it in the third. Christina Kelly recorded an assist for the host UPEI.

Sienna Cooke made 24 saves for the win while Marie Soleil Deschenes stopped 27 shots in the loss.

The second-place Huskies improve to 14-5-2 while the Panthers are 8-13-2 and have clinched a playoff spot.

UPEI closes out the season on the road Friday at Mount Allison.
