Savage makes 38 saves in UPEI Panthers victory over Saint Mary's

UPEI Panthers won their second road game of the weekend Saturday night in Halifax in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s hockey action.

Chris DeSousa scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period as UPEI defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies 3-2.

Alex Wall and Tyler Brown, on a power play, also scored for the Panthers with assists from Mason Wilgosh, Brown, Matt Maione, Reggie Traccitto and Wayne Savage.

Former Summerside Western Capitals forward Mitchell Maynard and Steven Beyers scored for Saint Mary’s.

The Panthers improve to 10-7-2 while the Huskies fall to 9-11-0.

Savage made 38 saves in the win while Anthony Peters made 36 stops in the loss.

UPEI held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2.

Elsewhere in the conference Moncton beat Acadia 6-5 in overtime, St. F.X. double St. Thomas 4-2 and UNB defeated Dalhousie 4-1.

The Panthers host Moncton (12-7-0) Friday at 7:30 p.m.
