Two first-period goals sink UPEI women's hockey team

CHARLOTTETOWN – Two power-play goals late in the first period by the Moncton Blue Eagles proved to be the difference in Friday night’s Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s hockey game here at MacLauchlan Arena.

The Blue Eagles scored two goals 1:35 apart, and went on to post a 2-0 victory over the UPEI Panthers.

Gabrielle Forget turned aside all 24 shots she faced for the Blue Eagles, and UPEI goaltender Marie-Soleil Deschenes blocked 24 of 26 shots directed her way.

Natacha Bergeron opened the scoring at the 17-minute mark, and Marie-Pier Arsenault made it 2-0 at 18:35.

The Panthers host the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday. Game time at MacLauchlan Arena is set for 2 p.m.
