Islanders playing Moosheads in makeup game

The Charlottetown Islanders are in Halifax tonight to play the Mooseheads in a makeup game.

Goalie Eric Brassard gets the start for the Islanders after Mason McDonald had played Charlottetown's last two games.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for Eric to get back in the net and lead the way for us,” coach Gordie Dwyer said.

The Islanders are 17-22-1-4 while the Mooseheads are 27-16-0-1. Both teams are 4-6 in their last 10 games. Tonight’s game was originally scheduled for Jan. 3, but was postponed due to a winter storm.

Affiliate goalie Daryl MacCallum will backup Brassard in Halifax with McDonald in Calgary for tonight’s BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects game. The game brings together the top-rated Canadian Hockey League players for this year’s NHL Draft.

Mooseheads forward Nikolaj Ehlers is also in Calgary.

The defending Memorial Cup champion Mooseheads have Jonathan Drouin and Zach Fucale back in the lineup after their Team Canada experience at the world junior championship.

Dwyer is looking for his team to play a smart road game and capitalize on its opportunities.

“We’re going to have limit their opportunities offensively,” he said. “I think we’ve done a very good job of remaining disciplined the last few games.”
