Goulet, Laliberte also make NHL Central Scouting Service list

Four Charlottetown Islanders made the NHL Central Scouting Service midterm rankings.

Mason McDonald is the seventh-ranked North American goalie and the top netminder from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He was acquired last month from Acadie-Bathurst.

McDonald, who is six-foot-four and 186 pounds, is 5-8-0-1 with a 3.22 goals-against average and a 0.898 save percentage. He was a second-round pick (20th overall) in the 2012 QMJHL draft.

Eric Brassard is ranked 23rd on the list.

The six-foot-one, 182-pound netminder is 6-10-0-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average and a 0.913 save percentage.

He was invited to the Tampa Bay Lightning training camp last year, but did not sign making him eligible for the draft. Brassard was acquired from Gatineau prior to the season for a fifth-round pick in 2014.

Boston College’s Thatcher Demko is the top-ranked goalie followed by a pair of American under-18 team players.

Islanders centre Alexandre Goulet is ranked 101 among North American skaters while defenceman Kevin Laliberte is 142.

Goulet has 18 goal and 11 assists in his first season with the Islanders. The five-foot-11, 190-pound centre was the last pick of the first round (19th overall) of the 2012 draft.

Laliberte has nine assists in 43 games in his second season with the Islanders. The six-foot-one, 182-pound blue-liner was taken in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2012 draft.

Alexis Pépin, who was traded last week to Gatineau, is 136 on the list.

Kingston centre Samuel Bennett was the top ranked North American skater followed by Prince Albert centre Leon Draisaitl, Barrie defenceman Aaron Ekblad and Kootenay centre Sam Reinhart.

McDonald will play in the BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game Wednesday in Calgary. He left Monday morning for Alberta.
