Maniacs outlast Red Wings in Island Junior Hockey League

ABRAM-VILLAGE – Alex Gallant had two goals and two assists to lead the Montague Maniacs to a 7-4 victory over the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings on Saturday night.

The Island Junior Hockey League contest was played at the Evangeline Recreation Centre.

Damon McDonald (1-2), A.J. McInnis (1-2), Matt Myers (1-2), Chris Stevenson (1-1) and Brandon Gaudet also scored for the second-place Maniacs, who upped their record to 15-5-1. Matt Higgins, Connor Myers and Matt Cox had single assists.

Jeremy Balderston (1-1), Lucas Matthews (1-1), Colton Gallant and newcomer Blake Ozon countered for the fourth-place Red Wings (9-12-1). Tyson Phillips, Cleve McNeill and Brett Adams assisted.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period, but the Maniacs took control with three unanswered goals in the middle frame to take a 4-1 advantage into the second intermission.

Tyler Whiffen earned the goaltending win over Chris Gallant.


Vipers win

In other league action Saturday night, the Kensington Moase Plumbing and Heating Vipers defeated the Holland College Hurricanes 6-2. No other details are currently available for that game.
