Doucette’s late goal salvages tie for Abbies

Balanced scoring leads Western over Pownal

Kyle Doucette scored unassisted at 18:48 of the third period to lift the Charlottetown Abbies into a 3-3 tie with the Kings County Kings on Saturday.

The Abbies hosted the P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game at Simmons Sport Centre.

Alex Hall and Cody Cudmore also scored for the Abbies, who will take a 7-8-6 into Sunday night’s game with the Western Regals in Tignish at 8:15 p.m. Keita Morikoshi, Alex MacBain and Quinton Gorman drew assists.

Ben Miller (2) and Matt MacKinnon (1-2) countered for the Kings (6-9-4). Single helpers went to Colby Mooney, Kenny McKinnon and Mike MacGregor.

The Abbies led 2-1 after the first period, and the Kings took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.

Goaltenders were Zach Geldert (Abbies) and Jed Walsh (Kings).

 

Western 4, Pownal 1

Eight players recorded points for the Western Regals in a winning effort on Saturday.

Jake Arsenault (1-1), TJ Shea, Nathan Handrahan and Braydon Arsenault scored in a 4-1 victory over the Pownal Red Devils at the Jacques Cartier Arena. Brendan Shea, Drake Smallman, Curklan Fraser and Jake Getson drew assists for the league-leading Regals, who took a 15-2-3 record into Sunday night’s home game.

Luke Dibenedetto, assisted by Jordan Harvey, netted the lone goal for Pownal (3-13-3).

The first period was scoreless, and the Regals took a 4-0 advantage into the second intermission.

The Regal Cresting player of the game for the Regals was winning goaltender Kristen Clements. James Duffy tended goal for the Red Devils.

The Regals’ next home game is also against Pownal on Sunday, Jan. 12. That contest will be played at the O’Leary Community Sports Centre at 7 p.m.
