Southside, Summerside also victorious
Cody McGuirk’s four-point effort sparked the Belfast Sabres to a 5-2 victory over the Tignish Perry’s Construction Aces in Razzy’s P.E.I. Junior C Hockey League action Saturday.
McGuirk had a goal and three assists while Jack Panting (1-2), Brady Doiron, Simon VanWeichan and Matt Glover rounded out the scoring for the Sabres, who improved to 15-3-1. That gives the Sabres a two-point lead over the Southside Lynx (13-2-3) atop the standings, but the Lynx can pull even with a win in Souris on Sunday night.
Nolan Irving (2), Carter MacLellan and Rob Hicken drew assists for the Sabres.
Dylan Rayner and Tyson Carragher replied for the third-place Aces (12-6-1). Riley Shea had a single assist.
The score was tied 2-2 after the first and second periods.
Jason Whiteway was the winning goaltender, and Chase Dyment took the loss.
Summerside 2, North River 1
The Summerside Source for Sports Capitals edged the North River Flames 2-1 at the APM Centre. All of the game’s scoring took place in the first period.
Matt MacDonald (1-1) and Greg Arsenault dented the twine for the Capitals, who will take a 9-8-1 record into Sunday evening’s road game against the Sherwood Falcons at the Cody Banks Arena. Travis Thibideau (2) and Josh Bernard assisted for the Capitals.
Logan LeClair, who was set up by Cody Keenan and Cameron MacMurdo, answered for North River (5-11-2).
Catlin Sonier earned the win, and Taylor Doyle was between the pipes for the Flames.
Southside 3, Sherwood 2
Cody Dawson’s goal with 2:25 left in the third period broke a 2-2 tie, sending the Southside Lynx to a 3-2 victory over the Sherwood Falcons on Saturday.
The Lynx led 1-0 after the first 20 minutes, and the teams went into the second intermission tied 2-2.
Dawson and Colton Dawson each had a goal and two assists to lead the second-place Lynx, who will take a 13-2-3 record into Sunday night’s game in Souris. Rob Miller (1-1) netted the other goal for the Crapaud-based Lynx.
Brody MacArthur and Brady Sinnott each had a goal and an assist for the Falcons (1-16-1), who are scheduled to host the Summerside Capitals at the Cody Banks Arena on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
Dylan Garnhum earned the goaltending win over Steve Lannigan.
