Laplante, Leduc trade to to Victoriaville

It’s official the Charlotttetown Islanders have traded forward Yan-Pavel Laplante and defenceman Julien Leduc.

The players are heading to the Victoriaville Tigres for the Tigres first-round picks in 2015 and 2016 and Baie-Comeau’s fourth-round pick in 2014, previously acquired.

“First round picks are always a valuable asset to an organization as they allow you to acquire or draft players that will help build your team and move it in the right direction going forward," said Islanders general manager Grant Sonier.

“To acquire these high picks you must move key players such as Yan-Pavel Laplante. Yan-Pavel has been an important piece to this franchise for the past two-and-a-half seasons and we wish him all the best going forward."

Sonier thanked Leduc for his efforts after being acquired at the start of the season to address a its blue-line.


Yan-Pavel Laplante

Age – 18

Hometown – Ste-Martine, Que.

Size – Six-feet, 186-pound forward.

How acquired – Selected in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2011 QMJHL Draft by the P.E.I. Rocket.

NHL – Drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round (62nd overall) in the 2013 draft.

Julien Leduc

Age – 19

Hometown – Valleyfield, Que.

Size, position – Six-foot, 190-pound defenceman

How acquired – Charlottetown traded a seventh-round pick in 2014 and a third-round selection in 2015 to Blainville-Boisbriand during the summer.
