It’s do-or-die time for the Canadian men’s hockey team at the Winter Universiade in Italy.

The team plays Slovakia in the quarter-finals tonight at 9 p.m. Atlantic in Trentino.

Canada won its first two games by a combined 23-1 score before losing 4-2 to Kazakhstan on Sunday in the final game of the preliminary play.

“We know what it is like to win over here and we know what it is like to lose,” assistant coach Forbes MacPherson told The Guardian on Tuesday.

“We have a team with high character that is preparing to put forth the best possible effort to continue on in the tournament.”

The Canadian team is made up of all-stars from the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference.

The UPEI Panthers on the team are goalie Wayne Savage, forward Chris DeSousa and defencemen Alex Wall and Matt Maione while MacPherson is an assistant to Gardiner MacDougall, of Bedeque.

The semifinals are Friday with the medal games on Saturday.
