Bridges, Canada going for gold Saturday at sledge hockey tournament

Billy Bridges will be going for gold Saturday in Toronto at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge.

The Summerside native is part of the Canadian team that beat Korea 2-1 in Thursday’s late semifinal. The United States beat Russia 4-1 in the other semifinal.

The final will start at 8:30 p.m. Atlantic and can be seen live on TSN2. Check local listings for broadcast times in your area.

Canada finished first in the preliminary round with a perfect 3-0 record, including wins over Korea (5-2), Russia (5-3) and the U.S. (4-1). The Americans came second in preliminary round action, with victories over Russia (2-1) and Korea (5-0), along with their loss to Canada.

Saturday’s game is the fourth time in the last five world challenges Canada and the U.S. have met for gold. The Canadians won 4-1 in 2011 in Calgary while the Americans scored a 1-0 win last December in Calgary, and a 3-2 overtime victory in 2009 in Charlottetown.
