Capitals, Abbies skate to tie in midget AAA hockey action
The Western Regals scored three times in the first 2:21 of the third period en route to a 7-3 win over the Kings County Kings.
The P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League game was played at the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton on Saturday night.
Jason Gallant’s two goals and an assist led the way for the Regals, who improved to 4-1-0. Nathan Handrahan (1-1), Brett Aylward (1-1), Drake Smallman, Chase McCue and Brandon Williams rounded out the scoring while Jeff Gaudet (2), Jake Getson (2), Curklan Fraser, Brendan Smith and Will Stewart assisted.
Colby Mooney (1-1), Matt MacKinnon (1-1) and Keirsten Steele countered for Kings County (1-2-2).
The Kings led 1-0 after the first period, but the Regals took a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission.
Winning goaltender was Kristen Clements.
Summerside 6, Charlottetown 6
The visiting Summerside Hemphill GM Capitals scored three unanswered goals in the third period to earn a 6-6 tie with the Charlottetown Abbies Saturday at the Simmons Sport Centre.
Owen Arsenault’s second goal of the game at 13:42 of the final frame capped the comeback to put the Caps’ record at 1-2-1.
Chasse Gallant led the Capitals with two goals and two assists, and Arsenault also added a helper for a three-point afternoon. Cameron Gillis and Kirk Arsenault netted the other Summerside goals, with single assists credited to Brady Albert, Spencer Groom, Kirk Arsenault, Cody Deighan and Ryan Campbell.
Jonny Gormley (2), Seb Burns (2), Alex Hall (1-2) and Rory Lantz countered for the first-place Abbies (4-1-1). Jarrod MacAdam and Matt Lange each added two assists.
The Abbies built period leads of 2-1 and 6-3.
Goaltenders were Koby Bridges (Caps) and Alex Dunne (Abbies).
